I'm The Spark.

I can't be the voice and the fight behind every social justice issue, no matter how badly I would love to. I can't wholeheartedly dedicate my life to every issue that grips my heart because most of these fights, require your entire life. I can't reform the criminal justice system, fight to abolish human trafficking, create a world where generational poverty doesn't exist, help inner city kids to read, fight for free or affordable health care for all, march for policy changes, research and fight for higher wages, attack gang violence at its root and fight for the rights of single mothers all at the same time with the intensity these issues need to be resolved. I know that it is impossible to make all these things right with just my one life, but there is something that I can do. I can inspire the life that WILL step up to be the voice for that particular issue. I can inspire tens or hundreds or thousands of lives to step up in their own particular area and dedicate their entire life to that fight. I understand that not everyone is like me, feeling deeply and wanting to fight for every social justice issue they see. But maybe that person is passionate enough about one issue. That one life and one issue is all it takes.

I was watching a documentary on Angela Davis and in one scene she was standing outside with a microphone speaking her truth to a crowd of young, radical world changers. Those people, in turn, left there and fought for justice in their community. In our day and age, we can write one blog, or shoot one youtube video or make one post that will reach that same type of crowd of world changers who can log off and go make changes where they are. I do not aim to play a part in every single revolution, but I do aim to inspire the lives that will. I may be the woman who is in charge of rallying the troops while others are in charge of their own sectors: literacy, juvenile delinquency, human trafficking, education, art, dance, health and the likes. Together, we all can play our part and bring about the change that we are so eager to see.

I’m not saying I’m gonna rule the world or I’m gonna change the world, but I guarantee you that I will spark the brain that will change the world. And that’s our job, It’s to spark somebody else watching us. We might not be the one’s, but let’s not be selfish and because we not gonna change the world let’s not talk about how we should change it. I don’t know how to change it, but I know if I keep talking about how dirty it is out here, somebody’s gonna clean it up.
